Celebrating Hall of Fame Inductees: Mark Krueger & Barbara Ferguson

We are proud to celebrate two extraordinary leaders of our Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northwest Suburbs family, Mark Krueger and Barbara Ferguson, on their induction into the BGC Illinois Hall of Fame!
Barbara Ferguson is the last of our original board members and has been dedicated to our mission since 1996. From the very beginning, she has raised funds and awareness to ensure the Club’s success, helping transform an idea into a lasting community institution. Guided by her personal motto, “Love what you do and know that it makes a difference. What can be more fun than that?” Barbara has embodied servant leadership. During her time as President of Dundee Township’s United Way, she played a crucial role in helping launch our local Clubs with $30,000 in seed funding to address gang-related challenges in the community. Her advocacy has secured significant grants, including a $200,000 Education Grant from the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, and her efforts have earned her numerous honors, such as the Illinois Boys & Girls Clubs Volunteer of the Year Award, Dundee Rotary’s “Service Above Self” Award, and Woman of the Year recognition. Her impact continues to inspire us all.
Mark Krueger began his journey with the Boys & Girls Club as a Club kid in the late ’60s and early ’70s at the General Woods location in Chicago. Decades later, when asked in 1997 to help craft an insurance policy to protect the newly forming Dundee Township Club, Mark reconnected with the movement that had shaped his youth. Soon after, he became a volunteer coach for his son’s basketball teams, which led to his service as a board member beginning in 2000. Over the past 25 years, Mark has served two terms as Board President, during which time several elementary sites were opened, as well as the award-winning Impact Center for teens. His leadership extends beyond our organization; he has represented us on the Illinois Area Council and continues to do so today as a member of our Executive Board, working tirelessly to expand opportunities for local youth to grow, learn, and succeed.
Together, Barbara and Mark embody the very best of the Boys & Girls Club spirit: commitment, advocacy, and a belief in building brighter futures for the next generation. Their induction into the Illinois Hall of Fame is a fitting recognition of their lifelong dedication and the incredible impact they have made in our communities.
Please join us in congratulating Mark Krueger and Barbara Ferguson on this well-deserved honor.
